One thing that everyone told me about Last Resort was that I HAVE to try their cake. Once again, they were right.

In my first post from Last Resort, I talked about how they use local vendors. With dessert they continue this trend. The cake they serve comes from local Athens baker Cecilia Villaveces. In deciding what flavor to choose I went with red velvet. One of UGA’s school colors is red, so it only seemed fitting to have red cake. WOW! I now understand why a lot of people go to Last Resort and always order dessert. The red velvet cake was incredibly moist. The cake was two layers with vanilla custard between them. The cake and custard was then encased in a rich and decadent buttercream icing. The empty plate picture really sums up my feelings on the cake. Even if you do not eat lunch or dinner at Last Resort, you must stop in to have some cake.

Lauren - Hi there! I just stumbled across you, and…great blog! I am a law student in Athens (although I live in Atlanta), and I must say, Last Resort is absolutely an Athens staple! The red velvet is indeed amazing (Cecilia Villaveces did my wedding cake!). BUT you must try the white chocolate cheesecake the next time you visit the Resort. Call ahead and make sure they have the cheesecake…it only comes in on certain days of the week, and believe me, it goes fast. Real fast. Because it is heaven.
Then take some beautiful photos!
