I love the combination of peanut butter and banana. In Nashville, I discovered that adding bacon to this combination takes the taste to an entirely new level.

The Elvis Panini was awesome, so naturally when I heard about the Elvis Doughnut at Ike and Jane in Athens I had to give it a try. The first time I went to Ike and Jane they were sold out of doughnuts! Some people would be disappointed, but this only increased my excitement and curiosity about the Elvis. The next morning, I woke up early and arrived at Ike and Jane right after it opened. There was a line, which to me is another good sign. I saw the Elvis sitting in the case. Crispy bacon and fresh banana sitting on top a creamy layer of peanut butter glaze. The doughnut was everything I had imagined and more. If you have been following my past posts, you know my feelings on bacon. I view it more as a condiment that you can add to any food and make it better. It is simple math, but I am pretty sure that bacon + doughnut> doughnut . Did the Elvis live up to all of this hype ?
YES IT DID ! Easily the best and most unique doughnut I have ever had. The saltiness of the bacon brought perfect balance to the sweetness of the banana and doughnut. The bacon’s crunchiness added a nice texture to the creamy peanut butter and light airy doughnut. I could go on describing this, but really if you are a bacon lover you have to try it for yourself. You WILL NOT be disappointed.

Tina - Who wouldn’t love this Doughnut! Thanks for sharing.
Tawny A - YAY! GO DAWGS! I am happy you found this donut and hope you loved the town. There is also a little place nearby called Choo Choo….they are asian fast food and really popular with the students. They have great sauces, so try their friend rice and ask for extra sauce! Oh heaven!
admin - Tawny,
Thanks for the post, I did hear about Choo Choo while I was down there. I will definitely have to stop by on my next visit. Later in the week I will be posting stuff from 5 Star Day Cafe, Last Resort, The Grill, The Grit and many more! Be sure to check those out.
