In addition to finding out what great food Boulder had to offer, I was also there for the Food and Light workshop. I had a great time meeting some awesome fellow food photographers and working with the incredibly talented instructors Jen Yu (use real butter) , Todd and Diane (white on rice couple) and Helen ( my Tartelette).

Here is Helen giving a great styling demonstration, she can make ugly refried beans look delicious!

So you might be wondering, Taylor what does sushi have to do with this? Good question. One of our assignments during the class was to take pictures of what we had for lunch. I was pretty excited when I heard this, I was planning of taking pictures of lunch anyway. The workshop was very close to Pearl Street, so a group of us went down to Pearl in search of food.

We decided on Hapa sushi. I am a big sushi fan, so it was not a hard sell. What really brought me in were the orange chairs and Voltron looking character on their logo. This is one of the coolest restaurant logos I had ever seen, so naturally I had to investigate further.
At Hapa, I wanted to try something new and different. Knowing I was going to photograph these rolls, I asked the waitress what the prettiest rolls were (yes I used prettiest to describe sushi rolls) Of her suggestions, I decided to go with the Ruby Red and Green Eggs and Ham.

The second roll, was the Green Eggs and Ham. What is that you ask? Well the sushi version consists of wasabi flying fish roe and hamachi.

It looks as though the awesome logo is not all Hapa has to offer. They have some pretty great sushi as well.

diane and todd - wow, your sushi photographs were stellar, they really stole the show for the lunch category. It was great hanging out with you Taylor. You have some amazing ideas and we’re excited to see all the wondering things that you’re going to be doing soon!
Carter @ The Kitchenette - I saw your write-up about cupcakes in Boulder, and I was all… “I wonder what he was here for.” Now I know and I’m so disappointed! I live in Denver and was so upset that I couldn’t make the Food and Light workshop since I was on vacation last week. Now I will add to the FML list that you were in town as well, because I would have loved to shake hands with you and pick your brain for a bit, just because your photos are so inspiring!
Carla - I love sushi! Those rolls look to die for!
Slobbering on the keyboard - Oh man, I’m seriously jealous! You got to see Helen at work. And all that sushi. And that assignment. Green and burning here
