Taylor Takes a Taste » What I take will make you hungry

|
Holy shit, all I had was overdone corn bread and chicken that tasted like it came from Randy Savage’s speedo. A fillet would be as common as a STD free coed. as a hokie alumna, i can totally vouch for this. believe it or not, owens, the dining hall on the other end of campus, is even better! glad you enjoyed your trip to good ol’ virginny. I lived in Cochrane, the dorm attached to West End, on the first floor.
Anyway, the cupcake you see in front you you in not just any cupcake, it is the cupcake that started it all… Divinity turned up to 11. All we need now is a blonde and a lot of whipped cream. I hope you enjoyed your time here in Blacksburg. I am currently a sophomore and just moved off campus this year trying to learn how to cook and bake so I am not depending on my meal plan all the time (even though we do have the #2 food in the country!) Hope you had a fantastic weekend and Go Hokies! that looks sosososo good i wish i could make it like that that is so cute I agree that is cute I want to make too [...] Strawberry Blush at Crushcakes in Santa Barbara, CA [...]
Thanks Taylor for visit Madtown. Too bad you couldn’t come when we square off with Ohio State, er, The Ohio State. Go Badgers! [...] since 2005 that I haven’t been in Madison for football season, and I miss it! Taylor wrote an amazing recap of what tailgating on game day is like, and it made me smile to read [...] BBQ and Beer pong is a magical combination, I’m surprised Disney hasn’t made a movie about this yet. Fantastic job encompassing the aura that is none other than a Badger Saturday! As Chad said, it’s too bad that you couldn’t have come on Oct. 16 for the game against Ohio State, which will be the BIGGEST and BEST tailgate in the nation hands down. Regardless, quoting none other than Scott Van Pelt, “Madison, WI is the best college town in all of America!” Good luck with the rest of your journey this fall, Taylor Ahh! So excited to find the UW tailgate on Foodgawker! Fellow Badger foodie, You should come to the University of TN at Knoxville games, there’s some grade A tailgating going on. Brittany Thanks for the comment. I will be there Oct 23 for the Tenn v. Alabama game I love it! Great photos. Makes me really want to get back there this fall for a game. I love all the red… go badgers. Great stuff man! Keep up the good work. Get to Ann Arbor already!!! Go Blue! This is great — love all of the photos. Now off to find that cheerleading outfit for my own dog… I love seeing other college towns on game day but I have to say, none beat the University of Iowa’s Iowa City! Go Hawkeyes Love that you featured beer pong and flip cup. AND made it look artsy/classy with the bokeh and whatnot (as much as that’s possible anyways!) Nice post- Way far away from Wisconsin (150 miles from Syracuse, who I follow) but I can see that Wisconsin has great fans. The tailgating pics of sausage on the grill have me drooling- The T-Shirt pics are awesome. Looks like quite a day! I’m loving this series. [...] wear. We’ve featured them before, but this picture comes from Taylor Takes a Taste’s visit to Madison last weekend. I’m not going to say that they’re classy, but at least they have the [...] Taylor, Great summary of a true WI tailgate! It truly made me a bit homesick (been living in Charlotte, NC for the past 3 years!) I cannot believe you even found the Badger Hat guy. Priceless! It is a shame that you couldn’t make it for homecoming when the battle of the axe is ON! The only way this article could have been better is if you had attended a conference game. Crowds would have been insane! I’m trying to decide on the homecoming or the Indiana game as I always make it back once a year! I have a hard time believing that any tailgate will beat a Badger tailgate. Thanks for sharing! GO BIG RED! omg – i feel like i was there and it’s been sooooooo long since i really was. i graduated in ’94. awesome pictures. i enjoy the badger perspective on tastespotting. go big red!!!! [...] I posted about this in my last Little Things Post, but I am completely in love with this recap of Wisconsin game day [...] Tell me about gameday as an Ohio Stae fan who wants to party outside the stadium? Is it a death wish? I stumbled across your blog recently and I must say, you did an excellent job of capturing the essence of Madison on a game day. Also, a good number of your pictures were taken at or around my house (the big yellow one at the corner of Lathrop and Van Hise). It is definitely quite an experience – I’m currently a Junior here, and am already regretting that I only have one more season after this to enjoy Badger games (grad school??) … keep up the good work, but I’m confident you won’t find another school that does things quite like Madtown. My buddie from High School played QB for the Badgers in 89-90 (Sean Wilson) and I came up to see agame and IT WAS AWESOME….looks like things haven’t changed…cam ya still take a to go case of beer from the bars at closing time? GO SOONERS This is such a great write up of the Wisconsin tailgate experience! And I love that you celebrated your birthday at the Nitty Gritty [...] a lot of friends? I’m not in Madison for the summer, but your pictures (really, all of the Madison posts) have made me “homesick” for campus, and especially football season. I’m in the marching band, so this was a nice way to enjoy a game day Saturday in Madison a few months before the season even starts This past weekend, I was in Madison for several reasons. I made my second stop on the tailgating tour, turned 25, and watched two of my friends complete their first Ironman triathlon. The Ironman is 140.6 miles of swimming, biking and running. Pretty much what I need to do after I spend a weekend eating and traveling. I doubt that I will ever attempt an Ironman ( did a half marathon and decided that was enough), but my friends Claire and Katie accomplished this challenge! This cupcake sounds delicious What other reason does one have for running an iron man if not for the glutton filled feast afterwords? Great choice on the cupcakes, you might want to add some pizza and ice cream in that mix as well. [...] [...] [...] eaten quite a few cupcakes (Columbia, Chapel Hill, Austin, Austin again, Fort Collins, Boulder, Madison, Knoxville) and this is the one I compare them to. I guess I can never really pick a favorite, but [...] [...] Lemon Drop at Sweet Impressions in Madison, WI [...] I am currently on my way to Madison for the 2nd game of the tailgate tour, got to love free wi fi in airports ( I started this in Charlotte this morning, but am finishing it on my friend’s couch in Madison) . Today ,I want to share with you one of the Santa Barbara stops that Brett and I made on our Great Western Road Trip. I used to live in Santa Barbara, and after moving away a year ago I almost forgot how beautiful a place it is. Love the look of that crab cocktail. I’m from Newport Beach and now live in Dallas…your pictures make me ask myself the exact same question. Mmm, that crab cocktail looks PERFECT. It doesn’t get any better than that… YUM. Avocado and seafood, together, in one dish Blasphemy and deliciousness all rolled into one. Clearly the makings of those damn hippies in Cali Beautiful pictures! I just found your site through TasteSpotting. That crab looks amazing!! Thanks everyone! The crab was delicious!
Great to meet you Taylor. You are welcome anytime in the Grove. Thanks for the coozies again! One hell of an event Taylor, they clearly view tailgating as a type of cult, though I suspect they only commit seppuko if they lose the game. That food spread is quite delectable, who doesn’t want a big ass piece of watermelon with a grove cupcake? great report! loved the picture of the bowtie with the fish on it. keep up the great work Thanks for great pictures of the Grove! It looks like a great tailgating environment. The “dress code” is definitely different from what we see in Big 10 country. Great post with awesome pictures! I think dressing up for tailgating/football games might be an SEC thing. People always dress up for GA games. Great job on the photography. You CAPTURED the Grove. [...] Sept 4th Ole Miss [...] Great Pictures! Takes me back and really made me miss the Grove. Not just that but the feeling you get when you hear that “Hotty Totty”. Loved that shot of you Taylor – I bet you were happy with that many pretty sundresses around Looks like you had a great time. Cool pictures! [...] Tailgate grillers going gourmet with parking lot feasts • A great look at what it is like to go Ole Miss tailgating at The Grove. • How to Throw a Fun and Inexpensive Tailgate [...] Great job, you captured it well! My daughter goes to Ole Miss and I am also a UW Madison alum. Quite a difference, both fun. My daughter couldn’t believe how far frat row is from the stadium. Have a Leinie’s at the Union on the lake for me! [...] Taylor Takes a Taste post has the best visual representation I’ve seen online of what tailgating in The Grove is like. [...] Really well done. I haven’t seen anyone else do a better job portraying The Grove on the web. Awesome take on Southern tailgating! I can’t wait to see how you document your time on The Plains. [...] Welcome to the second stop on my college tailgating tour. Last week, I brought you tailgating at Ole Miss. This past weekend, I returned to my alma mater, The University of Wisconsin in Madison,WI. I was [...] This is a great post. Yes, the sundresses are a must at most Southern schools…perfect football attire! It looks like you had a blast. Can’t wait to see where your other tailgate journeys take you! That looks like a blast! I would love to lick every girls boob there!!! ROMAL Looks like a typical Saturday on the Grove! The sundresses are more of a southern sorority type dress code. My daughter did it at Alabama until it was literally to cold to do so! Ah, good times! I miss them! Just a little FYI the Okra Snax vacuum fried and are sold at HEB Grocery stores in Texas. When you make your way to Texas make sure you get some for the road. My kids love them! This is their website….http://sunrisenaturalfoods.com/SNF_New_Products.html Fantastic post! I made it to my first SEC game this year at Arkansas but it looks like I NEED to get to the Grove for my next. Thanks everyone, I had an awesome time at the Grove. I can definitely see why it is always in the conversation for top tailgating spots! I love the comment “Even though it was 5 hours prior to kickoff there were plenty of people already setting up their tents.” 5 hours prior to kickoff, LSU fans have already been tailgating for 5 hours. [...] to The Grove at Ole Miss, The Quad at Alabama is the tailgating [...] [...] The College Football Tailgate Tour took over the remainder of the year. Week 1 of September was in Oxford, MS. Week 2 was in Madison, WI. Week 3, I was at Virginia Tech. Week 4 saw trips to Pittsburgh and [...] Going to my first tailgate and game on Oct 15 with my sister and brother in law. My son will be a sophomore at ole miss this year. I’d love to join in the fun, but don’t have a tent. Anyone want to have some fun loving Ole Miss fans join them that day in the grove? Would bring some good food and drink! Looking for an invite as I know NO ONE!! We’re clean, fun, and just plain ole simple folks! I was reading your “About” section and saw your link to the Ultimate Tailgating Tour. Right as I was clicking on the link, I thought, “I wonder if he visited Ole Miss.” How exciting it was to scroll down and see it was the first photo collage! I attended another Mississippi university, but my husband and I love going to Ole Miss games for all the reasons you capture so well in this post. It’s unlike anything you will ever experience at a football game! From someone born and raised in Mississippi, good job on this post! Yesss thats me Huston is brushing off on the walk of champions. Great pics [...] Tailgating in The Grove, Ole Miss, Oxford, MS Sep 8, 2010 … It is a this large green space on the Ole Miss campus that transforms overnight into …. great report! loved the picture of the bowtie with the fish on it. keep up the great work … [...] Would be welcome at our tent. We are in the Circle (similar to Grove, but not as crowded, and only about 100 steps to the Grove.) Could you tell me when the away team walks in? Hi Taylor – Great job at the grove. I would like for you to email me to find out what I do at big ball games in the South. You simply will not believe it!
yummy! It looks like the food there is delicious. I’ve never had grits, but only polenta (which is similar I think?)…so I agree with you on adding butter and seasoning. That looks awesome. I am not a big breakfast fan. But Big Bad breakfast might change my mind next time I am in Oxford. John Benjamin Now I want to visit MS real soon! Great story too. Big, bad, and badass. The money shot on that sandwich is making me drool all over myself as we speak. I need a napkin…..plus a few for later [...] 8, 2010 · 0 comments I have had my Big Bad Breakfast and my catfish dinner from Taylor’s, so now it is time to bring you what I drove 575 miles [...] Great post!It makes me so hungry! I find those grits incredibly compelling. Way to get my mouth watering at 9 AM. You have that way about you, Taylor. I have had a long time to think about this post. 158 days to be exact. That is the amount of time between my first trip to Taylor Grocery and actually getting to eat at Taylor Grocery. Earlier this year, I was in Oxford and made my first attempt at eating in Taylor. Unfortunately, I arrived to this… View full post » I just took my first trip to Oxford last spring, and I wish I’d have known about Taylor’s. I adore places with such history and character. Of course, almost anything Southern is alluring to me, but spots like this make me so glad to be a part of it all. Southern tastes at its finest. All you are missing is some gumbo and a cousin for a girlfriend and you well on your way to true southern living. Very cool review. Have you posted it on Fiddme yet? One of my favorite dining experiences ever. Glad it worked out for you second time around. You can never go wrong with fried catfish and okra! Wow, another post that makes me want to travel the US sometime soon. Beautiful! I had always [...] [...] Warm buttery grits. I love grits. Grits all by themselves are bland and not that great, but when you add butter and seasonings ( there is probably some type of dairy in them as well) you create a creamy rich dish that will leave you full for hours. After this big and bad breakfast I was full until my visit to Taylor Grocery. [...] After a few days in Vegas, Brett and I finally arrived in California! Are final destination was Pasadena, but we decided to make a slight detour and visit my old home of Santa Barbara. On our way to Santa Barbara we had to stop at Brett’s favorite California restaurant, and what I think is one of the coolest sea food restaurants in the world ( yes not just the country but the world). oh, looks so delicious! I love avocado I live very close to Neptune’s Net and love it! This gray, damp weather has been with us all summer, but it doesn’t put a damper on the food at Neptune’s Net! Glad you made the trip to showcase a local spot that never disappoints. Oh, I love that place! We have lived in Orange County since September 2008, and we take everybody who visits to Neptune’s Net (my husband is a friend by trade to Joe Eszterhas and he suggested we tried out the place). Everybody always takes the picture with the sign “Beware of Rattlesnakes” (or something similar). Beautiful pictures and looks like somebody just had a manicure. LOL Good for you man, you could be a hand model. I live in LA but I’m new here, thanks for showing me this place, the food looks fantastic. I loved your blog and your portfolio. Great photos. I’m hooked. Taylor! What a great website! LOVEZIT, makes my mouth salivate. Btw, you should definitely try Malibu Seafood at some point, too! IT’S AMAZING! [...] Luv It Frozen Custard Las Vegas, Nevada [...] [...] Luv It Frozen Custard, Las Vegas, NV [...] Salt Lake City. It is the capital of Utah and was home to the 2002 Winter Olympics. I must admit, I only found out that it was the home of the University of Utah a few hours before Brett and I arrived. I would not say Salt Lake City qualifies as a college town, but since I was there, I had to see what great college food I could find. By the way, it was also where High School Musical was filmed. ( you can see that Brett was pretty excited to have found the high school that was used ) I just wanted to know that I have been reading your blog for the past month or so. I stumbled upon it somehow, who knows, but I really enjoy hearing what you have to say! Your photography has inspired me to start my own portfolio, and photograph what I cook and eat. Keep up with your photography style, its awesome! I blog, mainly about recipes here: http://www.wwwssfi.blogspot.com I am just trying to get myself known and out there! Check me out if you want!
