Happy National Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day! I have been looking forward to this day for a very long time! I love Ice Cream, but making my own flavor? How was I going to decide. There must be millions of possibilities that I could try! I found my inspiration in probably the most unusual of places. A Sandwich.
Yes, I looked to one of my favorite sandwiches for inspiration. I love the combination of peanut butter and banana. If you haven’t tried this combination go make yourself one now!
Ok now that we are all in agreement that a peanut butter and banana sandwich is delicious,
how would I go from sandwich to ice cream?
I don’t have an ice cream maker, so not having one is not a valid excuse to not celebrating National Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day. I simply used my favorite vanilla ice cream, mixed in my toppings, and refroze it in a parchment lined loaf pan.
To make Peanut butter Banana ice cream you will need
1 1 1/2 quart tub of your favorite vanilla ice cream (if you want to make your own base this recipe looks delicious)
2 cups nutter butter bite size cookies crumbled up (you can use the big cookies and crumbled them if you want)
2 fresh bananas pureed (I used a food processor)
In a large bow,l mix the ice cream, crushed nutter butters, and banana puree. Stir together until the mix ins are incorporated through out. Pour the mixture into a parchment lined loaf pan. Freeze overnight. Enjoy!
The result the next day is
Delicious! I added more bananas and nutter butters and garnish with chocolate syrup to create a Peanut Butter Banana Sundae! Creating your own ice cream is a perfect dish to bring to your 4th of July get together this weekend. Here are a few things I will be making this weekend while celebrating!
To drink, some delicious Orangeade
For sides, some delicious pimento cheese
Red White and Blue Macaroni and Cheese
and for dessert, Mini Funnel Cakes
Have a great 4th of July weekend and a great National Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day !
Yummm, good flavor choice!! And fantastic photos 🙂
Thanks Julie!
Taylor… You’re a genius! I never would have thought of this flavor of ice cream, and I eat a PB and banana sandwich almost every day! YUM!
Thanks Kaitlin! I have one almost every day as well!
Everything in this post looks great, but I’ve got my eye on that ice cream… amazing! Peanut butter & banana sandwiches are an old favorite of mine, and reinventing those flavors in an ice cream recipe was a fantastic idea.
Thanks Lauren! it was pretty delicious!
mmmmmmmm. yes.
What a coincidence…I mixed up three batches of homemade ice cream this weekend: Fresh mint with Peppermint Patties, a batch of Double Stuff Oreo Cookies ‘n’ Cream, and a batch of pure vanilla to go with my mixed berry cobbler.
I’ve been making lists of creative ice cream flavors to try. This one looks delicious, Taylor. I was thinking of a banana and Nutella batch. Whatcha think?
O awesome! those sound like delicious combinations. I think banana and nutella would be delicious together! let me know how it turns out!
