The motto for the Magnolia Cafe is Everybody Knows, Everybody Goes. Now that I have been I understand why.

My friend Jackie and I decided to check out the Lake Austin Blvd location. There is another location on South Congress which I will have to check out on my next visit. Magnolia is open 24/7, but friend Jackie and I went for breakfast (she needed her coffee).

Upon looking at the menu I decided to go with the approach of, if it sounds good then it should taste good. I generally find this is a good strategy.
I was in the mood for pancakes. I love pancakes, but how do you choose between gingerbread, buttermilk, whole wheat, and corn meal? I had never had corn meal, so cornmeal was the winner.

Done ordering right? Well you are mistaken. I still had to choose between a wide variety of fruits, chocolate chips, or pecans to add to them. I decided blueberries where the way to go.

I could not end the breakfast with just pancakes, so I took a look at the omelet section of the menu. I saw one entitled the T. Rex. Intriguing. Upon further reading I discovered it contained shredded smoked turkey, cheddar and jack cheese, avocado and pico de gallo. I was sold.

Mmmm the T. Rex and pancakes were definitely a good decision. Magnolia serves more than breakfast so maybe next time I visit I will have to check out their other options, but with breakfast served all day this might be tough to do. On my next trip to Austin there will definitely be a return to Magnolia.

J Will - Tay! Looks like you had a great time (and delicious food) in Austin. You should come to DC! We’ve got some great restaurants here…
kell - they once had a mimosa that was champagne and orange gatorade. I thought it was a failure to say the least…but at least it was free.
Delicious pancakes! Next time, try the Mag Mud. Awesome, awesome, awesome.
grace - so jealous. i think you may very well have ordered the very same thing i would’ve picked had i been present. your pictures are phenomenal–thanks for sharing!
Lauren W - Great pictures! Next time you are at Magnolia I highly recommend the gingerbread pancakes, they are amazing!! Also, if you like ice cream, try Austin Scoops, they have the best ice cream I have EVER eaten with great flavors like toasted marshmallow!
Taylor - Thanks Lauren, yes it was a tough battle between corn meal and gingerbread, I will definitely check out the gingerbread the next time I am in Austin! Thanks for the comment!
Memoria - Fantastic photos!! I’m not crazy about Magnolia’s, but your photos make the food look amazing! I can’t believe you were less than a mile away from me haha. I live right by Mopac and Lake Austin Blvd.

Denae - found a great Mexican place. down on St Elmo & Burleson theres a street between McDonalds & the post office. go down that curvy street. the place is called El Bucana. its open from 6am-2pm then I think at night it becomes a night club. the Enchiladas Verdes were fantastic & they do homemade corn tortillas… the place looked a bit sad n dirty, and there isnt any a/c but I dont care how much i sweat d food is authentic n delicious. i’ll definately b back to this hole in the wall.
cody - i live in austin, and while i love magnolia, i am surprised you did not feature breakfast tacos- that is the breakfast of hung over student champs all over austin, and it is unique to the area.
Lauren - If you ever go to Austin again, try getting the chocolate chip pancake at Mags. Spread some butter on it, and ask for whipped cream. HEAVEN!
