After my trip to Athens, GA, (home to the University of Georgia) I am very worried. I must say that my confidence in Madison being the best college food town is shaken. I discovered some amazing meals in Athens, and I feel it only makes sense to start with breakfast. You start your day with breakfast so why not have breakfast be the first post I do.
When asking people where I should dine in Athens, Mama’s Boy was at the top of their list. After visiting, I can see why. There are many things that I like about the place, but in this post I am going to talk about what every kid wishes they could eat for breakfast.
Chocolate Cake for Breakfast $5.95
Warmed miniature chocolate cake with espresso drizzle and vanilla whipped cream, served with fresh fruit.
Upon reading this I was sold. I had never seen chocolate cake offered as a breakfast item before, so naturally I had to try it. The idea was inspired by a Bill Cosby comedy sketch and the result was delicious.
The cake was dense, warm, and rich. Notice how the fresh vanilla whip cream just oozes off of the top. Chocolate cake can be very sweet and overpowering. Not the case with this cake. The cake was sweet but not to sweet. The espresso dribble added a coffee flavor that helped with the breakfast theme. The fresh fruit not only tasted great, it continued the breakfast theme. After all, fresh fruit and chocolate cake is a balanced breakfast. Right ?
